Sediment sink-source transitions in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River estuary

چکیده

Human activities have severely altered the Yangtze River (Changjiang) Estuary’s pattern, beach-trough shape, and delta in recent decades. Existing research has studied sediment “source–sink” relationship between mainstream estuary using gauged suspended data. This method overestimated decline concentration estuary, as riverbed scouring or deposition not filtered out amounts related to sand mining waterway dredging. study took Basin subject used spot observed runoff, sediment, topography data gathered 1980 2020 analyze trapping effect of Three Gorges Reservoir (TGR) “source-sink” transport middle-lower reaches River. The Estuary Delta is dominated by scouring, which shows an increasing trend. During operation TGR (2003–2020), load entering from decreased 68% compared amount prior commencing (1960–2002). However, studies found that there are still large bottom with movement characteristics after Project souring downstream dam increased degree recharge. 2003 2018 period 1981 2002, annual decrease 16.9%. cumulative Yichang–Datong Datong–Xuliujing 1981–2002 was 3.13×10 8 m 3 1.60×10 , respectively, 2002–2018 28.52×10 16.01×10 . concluded even if significantly TGR, gradually transformed “sink” “source” supply.

Variations of Runoff and Sediment Load in the Middle and Lower Reaches of the Yangtze River, China (1950-2013)

On the basis of monthly runoff series obtained in 1950-2013 and annual sediment load measured in 1956--2013 at five key hydrological stations in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River basin, this study used the Mann-Kendall methods to identify trend and abrupt changes of runoff and sediment load in relation to human activities. The results were as follows: (1) The annual and flood se...

Genetic Diversity of Daphnia pulex in the Middle and Lower Reaches of the Yangtze River

Increased human activities and environmental changes may lead to genetic diversity variations of Cladocerans in water. Daphnia pulex are distributed throughout the world and often regarded as a model organism. The 16S rDNA, cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI), and 18S genes were used as molecular marks. The genetic diversity and phylogeny of D. pulex obtained from 10 water bodies in the middle...

Dynamics of the lakes in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River basin, China, since late nineteenth century.

The middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River basin have the most representative and largest concentration of freshwater lakes in China. However, the size and number of these lakes have changed considerably over the past century due to the natural and anthropogenic impact. The lakes, larger than 10 km(2) in size, were chosen from relief maps and remotely sensed images in 1875, 1950, 1970, 1...

Assessment of Hydrologic Alterations Caused by the Three Gorges Dam in the Middle and Lower Reaches of Yangtze River, China

Hydrologic regime plays a major role in structuring biotic diversity within river ecosystems by controlling key habitat conditions within the river channel and floodplain. Daily flow records from seven hydrological stations and the range of variability approach were utilized to investigate the variability and spatial pattern of the hydrologic alterations induced by the construction of the Three...

Consistent responses of the microbial community structure to organic farming along the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River

Soil microorganisms play a crucial role in the biogeochemical cycling of nutrient elements and maintaining soil health. We aimed to investigate the response of bacteria communities to organic farming over different crops (rice, tea and vegetable) along the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River of China. Compared with conventional farming, organic farming significantly increased soil nut...
